Acting is for everyone

Are you taking yourself too seriously? Then it’s time for you to try an acting activity. This exercise is best done in front of a mirror, but if you aren’t ready for that, no worries!

The Lion Face

Make a neutral Face, hold your hands up in fists next to your face.

  • Close your eyes and scrunch up your eyes, nose, mouth making your facial features as small as possible.
  • Count (in your head) 1, 2, ON 3… do this all at the same time:
    • open your fists and stretch your palms out
    • make your facial features as big as possible
    • Stick out your tongue
    • open your mouth huge
    • bug out your eyes
    • make a breathy sound like you are fogging a mirror

Relax. Good job!

I hope you feel a little less serious. This is my go to exercise with all my students, an activity inspired by hours of practicing Yoga all over Manhattan combined with the shockingly positive experience of trying it with 7th graders on my first day as a drama teacher.

If I can get SEVENTH GRADERS to do this, imagine what I can do for you?!

Everyone is an Actor. We act every day in our lives, some of us more than others, as we navigate the person we need to be at work, school, running errands, and with friends. People are complicated and fascinating and there is nothing I love more than changing someone’s perception of themselves, and converting a non-actor to an actor.

Acting is for Everyone. Most people know that kids and teens can benefit from theater experiences and many of us have fond memories of being a part of shows in our younger days. There are A LOT of benefits to participating in theater for students. Here are just a few of my personal favorites:

  • Thinking on your feet!
  • Perseverance
  • Time Management
  • Teamwork
  • Self-Discipline

But what happens to us when we become adults? Are we expected to have mastered all of these qualities?

Some of us (who have time and energy) might join a gym, team sport, act in community theater shows, take classes or learn new hobbies but many of us are just too busy being ADULTS.

An individual or group acting coaching session with me is a different approach to preparing for that big event or commiting to”self-improvement”, “self-care”, “becoming a better you”, “having fun”, whatever you want to call it!

Acting coaching can be scheduled on YOUR time, with YOUR goals and will leave YOU feeling great about YOU. Especially after The Lion Face.

I look forward to working with you!
